Siri Eyes free not working after iOS 10

iPhone 6S 64GB running iOS 10 - Ford Kuga 2016

I have been having issues with Siri Eyes free every since upgrading to iOS10. Prior to the upgrade I was able to see what Siri was referring to on the iPhone screen. For instance if I am choosing a destination for navigation.

Now when I press the voice button on my steering wheel I can hear Siri talking but the iPhone remains locked and the screen black. Even when I unlock the phone, there is no display of Siri (only the normal icons/splash page are displayed). The only thing that changes is the bar at the top of the phone (signal time etc) turns to purple.

Is this a new feature of iOS 10 or is something broken?

I'll try this. I have been Hands Free-Less since updating to iOS 10. Hate to look at my phone while in the car. I used to keep it in my purse. I press the Speak button on steering wheel and no BeepBeep happens and the music continues to play. I did have "Hey Siri" enabled, so I will try disabling it tomorrow. Currently when I un-pair and re-pair I can get it to work ONE time, but after that, it goes back to its bad behavior. I have 2014 Honda Civic Coupe EX, originally touted iOS in the Car, which was renamed to CarPlay. I bought the car and CarPlay was never instituted until 2016 in certain models. Grrrrrrrr. I love the car and love my iPhone, but I wish they could just get along.
